Care Home for The Disgusted (CHD)

The CHD is a council funded mental institution, offering free care for psychologically disturbed local residents deemed unable to care for themselves. The CHD offers no medical or psychological treatment other than mild sedation when required. Inmates of the institution are generally considered "beyond all hope".

The CHD was founded in 1936 and was originally called The Fannie Hedden Home for The Mentally Disturbed. Mrs Hedden was a local flower show organiser. By 1964 the name had been changed to The Abyss for reasons no one remembers. In 2002, because of the popularity of the phrase "disgusted of Gunbridge Bells" a council member jokingly suggested changing the name to its present incarnation and was surprisingly taken seriously by the rest of the council. The motion passed unanimously and the rest is history.
