Dogcats

Another one of Gunbridge Bells' unique animal species. A strange mixture of dog and cat that lives only in the tunnels. The dogcat looks something like a fox, with grey fur and very large black eyes. It is about the size of a house cat with a hairless tail very much like a rat's. The dogcat is primarily a scavenger and appears in great numbers around public areas. It is generally friendly and not at all shy, unlike its feline namesake. It is often described as the pigeon of the tunnels, as groups of dogcat will gather around diners, waiting for scraps. Children love to feed dogcats as they would birds, and packets of feed for this purpose are often sold by ratters in large public areas like The Grand Cavern.

The dogcat has exceptionl vision and can see well in almost complete darkness. When in brightly lighted areas, a filter type membrane lowers over the eyes, effectively acting as a pair of natural sunglasses. Because of this filter, when in strong light, like that from a camera flash, dogcat eyes can appear to be blood red or dark purple in colour.

Although friendly, the dogcat has never successfully been domesticated. All attempts have resulted in the poor creatures dying after only a few months.
